Tuesday, 31 May 2011 00:00

ESG's Bill Cage, VP of Healthcare Solutions, will be teaming up with NYU Langone Medical Center's Josie Anderson, Senior Director of Financial Systems, for two presentations and the Healthcare Industry User Group (HIUG) Interact 2011 Conference.

System Considerations to Support the Financial Transformation Efforts at NYULMC will outline how NYULMC leveraged its PeopleSoft implementation to achieve its Finance organizational goals by implementing leading practices, organizational capabilities, process efficiencies, technology and controls. It will discuss the specifics of how the procure to pay process was improved through PeopleSoft to address the issues identified in the NYULMC financial transformation initiative. The primary focus was to ensure greater financial control over all aspects of spending.  This required a tighter focus on systems and processes to ensure greater control and approval of purchases prior to the commitment to spend, greater efficiency in the payment process and better insight into the spend (actual and committed) against budget.  Key areas of discussion will be:

- Overall PeopleSoft system flow architecture to support the goals

- The approval process for spend

- Improving controls; and

- Budgeting and encumbrances: commitment control.

The PeopleSoft SCM Intregration to Clinical Systems (EPIC, Omnicell) presentation will cover the specific challenges and solutions encountered at NYU Medical Center during its PeopleSoft implementation. A key aspect of the transformation involved the replacement of many financial and clinical systems, including an implementation of PeopleSoft Financials and SCM to replace systems from GEAC and McKesson, and a new clinical system from EPIC. This session will discuss the challenges present in providing item information from PeopleSoft SCM to the clinical systems (specifically EPIC and Omnicell) and will include:

- A discussion of the specific issues and requirements for the SCM integration and the strategic decisions that were made to address them.

- A discussion of the specific implementation methods (technical and functional) that were taken to meet these requirements.

- A broader discussion regarding the operational methods of handling item master data from identification of need through the processes to have the item available for use.

- A discussion of the importance and impact of change management in the process with particular attention to the need that surfaced regarding standardizing terms across the organization.
